Database Description

Africa News Service is an international news agency covering political, economic, and social developments in Africa. Africa News has been a leading information source on Africa since 1973. Contributors include the Panafrican News Agency, headquartered in Dakar, with more than 30 correspondents throughout Africa providing daily coverage and specialized features, and the Nairobi-based All Africa Press Service. Participating publications include some of Africa's best-known independent periodicals, among them the Post of Zambia, the Mail and Guardian of Johannesburg, the Addis Tribune, the Sudan Democratic Gazette, and Nigeria's Newswatch and Theweek. The service also provides a selection of key speeches and comments on Africa and U.S.-Africa relations.


Africa News is contained in two databases: Files 606 and 806. File 606 contains current data beginning in June 1999. File 806 contains archive data spanning from July 1996 through May 1999. OneSearch/DIALINDEX category AFRICANEWS may be used to begin both files simultaneously; i.e., BEGIN AFRICANEWS.
