Database Description

Domain Names is produced by Dialog and SnapNames, and provides comprehensive information on domain names. A domain name is an alpha-numeric designation used to identify a particular computer or address on the Internet.

The database is a centralized resource containing both current registration (WhoIs) records and historic ownership (WhoWas) records for Internet domain names. Individual records may be searched by registrant name, domain name, e-mail address, phone number, zip code and numerous other fields. Domain Names is designed to assist enterprises, law enforcement, attorneys and others in various critical applications.

These applications may include:

  • Monitoring trademark portfolios and investigating the uniqueness or availability of names
  • Searching by an individual's name to create authoritative evidence of bad faith, cyber squatting or other offenses
  • Conducting domain name audits to inventory all domain name assets owned by an organization or to track competitor activity
  • Performing law enforcement investigations in areas such as cyber crime

    Domain Names includes information on available, expired and registered domain names with Top Level Domains (TLD) of COM, NET, ORG, BIZ, and INFO as well as those that use country codes, e.g., AT.

    Domain Names Specific Terms & Conditions

    The information available through Domain Names is the property of Dialog, SnapNames or various content providers and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Information received through Domain Names is to be used solely for internal purposes. Except with prior written authorization from Dialog and SnapNames, no information received through Domain Names may be duplicated, reproduced, distributed, or otherwise disseminated, in whole or in part, in any form, except that limited reproduction is permitted for distribution within Customer’s organization. Dialog and SnapNames make no claim of copyright ownership in any information that is in the public domain.

    THE INFORMATION PROVIDED THROUGH DOMAIN NAMES IS PROVIDED ON AN ‘AS IS’ BASIS. DIALOG AND SNAPNAMES DO NOT WARRANT THAT THEIR PROVISION OF THE LICENSED INFORMATION WILL BE UNINTERRUPED OR ERROR-FREE. DIALOG AND SNAPNAMES MAKE NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES ARISING OUT OF A COURSE OF PERFORMANCE, DEALING OR TRADE USAGE. IN NO EVENT SHALL DIALOG OR SNAPNAMES BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. DIALOG AND SNAPNAMES EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ACCURACY OR TIMELINESS OF INFORMATION ORIGINATING FROM THE VARIOUS DOMAIN NAME REGISTRIES OR REGISTRARS, AND ANY ERRORS OR OMISSIONS IN SAID DATABASES RESULTING FROM USE OF SUCH INFORMATION.

    Use of Domain Names must be consistent with the Customer’s existing Standard Service Agreement with Dialog. The database may not be used for telemarketing, spamming, harassment, any unlawful purpose or violation of applicable law, nor may it be used to: (i) allow, enable, or otherwise support the transmission, by e-mail, telephone, or facsimile, of mass, unsolicited, commercial advertising or solicitations; or (ii) enable high-volume, automated, electronic processes that send queries or data to the systems of any domain name registry operator or registrar, except as reasonably necessary to register domain names or to modify existing domain name registrations.

    Without limitation or waiver of any other right or remedy, Dialog may terminate the Customer’s access to Domain Names without notice, in the event that Dialog or SnapNames believes, in their sole discretion, that Customer has violated any provision of these Terms and Conditions.

    Dialog reserves the right to exclude from access to Domain Names those domain name registries and registrars and entities affiliated with such registries and registrars (including, but not limited to, wholly owned subsidiaries, parent companies, joint ventures or partnerships, independent agents, resellers, and distributors) who do not in Dialog's sole judgement comply fully with ICANN regulations related to the provision of whois data (including by bulk whois) to third parties for non-marketing purposes.

    Customer hereby waives, to the extent permitted by law, any claim for damages, injunctive relief, declaratory judgment and any other remedy pursuant to any statute, law, regulation or common law of the United States of any state, arising from such termination by Dialog and SnapNames, and Customer agrees to indemnify Dialog and SnapNames for any damages, costs, or expenses incurred by Dialog and SnapNames (including reasonable attorney's fees) by reason of Customer’s assertion of any such claim.

    Domain Names Terms and Conditions are in addition to those found in The Dialog Corporation's Standard Service Agreement. If there is a conflict between these terms and conditions and those in The Dialog Corporation's Standard Service Agreement, these Terms and Conditions will apply.
