    TEXT:
/LP,/TX  TOKYO, April 26 - The Boeing Company said on Monday that it had kicked off
its 7E7 jet, its first new airplane in more than a decade, after receiving
an order from Japan's All Nippon Airways for 50 planes.

/TX  The order from All Nippon Airways was the largest in Boeing's history, the
company said, which estimated the deal at $6 billion, based on the jet's
list price. But as the first customer for the medium-range airplane,
nicknamed the Dreamliner, analysts said that All Nippon most likely
    received a significant discount.

    TEXT:
/LP,/TX    Boeing Co. followed the intent of congressional law in its strategy to
provide new tanker aircraft to the U.S. Air Force, officials told The DAILY
in a continuing defense of the deal.

/TX    "The intent of Congress was that the Air Force and Boeing work together
using widely accepted commercial practices to find a way to deliver 100
tanker aircraft to the warfighter far sooner than traditional
non-commercial DOD practices allow," Jim Albaugh, president and CEO of
Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, said of the lease-buy arrangement for
    KC-767A tankers.

Boeing has launched a vigorous defense of its negotiations with Air
Force officials, which were sharply criticized in a Defense Department
inspector general's report (DAILY, April 12) and have come under fire from
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a member of the Senate Armed Services
    Committee.
