    TEXT:
/LP,/TX  Computer Associates International Inc. of Long Island has reacquired its
Sarasota-based spinoff Infresco Inc., and will expand the Sarasota
operation during the next few years to include not only software
development, but training and professional assistance for its customers.

The move could bring significant job growth for Infresco.

/TX      Compared with the current work force of 100, "several hundred
(employees) is not at all untoward in a year and a half," said Norman
Worthington III, who founded Infresco in May 1996.
At Computer Associates headquarters in Islandia, N.Y., senior Vice
President Marc Sokol would not venture a guess on new hiring, but confirmed
that there "should be increased employment in the group of people working
down there, as there would have been had it remained as Infresco."

With funding and majority control in the hands of Computer Associates,
Worthington has successfully launched a software product called Opal. The
software has quickly became a favorite of companies, schools, hospitals and
government organizations seeking to hold onto their old mainframe computers
while providing employees with a more modern way to access them.

The programming approach behind Opal, called Meta4, makes it possible to
build multimedia applications without typing in computer code by hand.

Less than a year after its introduction, Opal has nearly a thousand
accounts at some phase of evaluation, trial, or deployment.

Wal-Mart, for example, uses it across the Internet to allow vendors to
review inventory levels. Miami-Dade County plans to make public information
that is now inaccessible available to the public via the Internet through
Opal. The University of Miami plans to do all its course scheduling for the
    fall semester via Opal.
Computer Associates is packaging its bread-and butter database, called
Ingres II, a new one called Jasmine, and Opal with one marketing plan. The
approach is intended to offer chief information officers a high degree of
flexibility. Computer Associates says  no other vendor offers this sort of
umbrella approach, which it dubs Harmony.

The company has also decided to become more of a professional service
    organization, like Arthur Andersen Consulting.

Instead of only selling a university the Opal software and  providing
basic training, Computer Associates will  also offer the use of its own
consultants to put Opal into action.

Computer Associates generated revenues of $4.5 billion in 1997 and has
11,000 employees in 160 offices in 43 countries.

Worthington, who has started and sold five software companies, will
remain in an active role at Computer Associates, but will no longer run the
    firm's Sarasota office.
