    TEXT:
/LP,/TX  Peter Seibert can't contain his enthusiasm.

He points to refrigerator magnets, crocheted potholders, a
ceramic lawn bird. He's like a child in a toy store, presented with
    overwhelming possibilities.

/TX      The director of the Heritage Center Museum of Lancaster County
gleefully unfolds a quilt pieced in a hodgepodge assortment of
psychedelic colors, gushes over a brush holder crafted from yarn and
a tin can and almost reverently cups a handmade, multicolored
sequined-and-beaded peacock pin in his hands.

At first glance, the question is: What is this eclectic mix of
yard sale finds, auction bargains and homemade gifts doing on display
    at the museum?

The answer lies in the former owners and makers of these items,
    all of whom are Amish.

"Amish Arts of Lancaster County," which opened Friday and will
run through the end of the year, provides a rare glimpse of 200
objects made by Lancaster County Amish between 1790 to 1990.

But even she concedes that some of the little whimsies in the
show, created as gifts for friends, have no function.

"Really, what can you do with a beadwork creamer?" she said.

The Heritage Center museum is located next to Central Market in
downtown Lancaster. It's open Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 10
    a.m. to 5 p.m.
