/LP,/TX   BEIJING  (June   25 ) XINHUA  - An exposition focusing on the burgeoning
electronic commerce and communications sector is to be staged for the
first time ever in the Chinese capital from September 6 to 9.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) and the
Ministry of Information Industry (MII) are the two organizers of the
E-Commerce Expo '99, which will feature the development of China's
    E-Commerce technologies and applications.

/TX  The exposition will demonstrate China's progress in e-commerce,
e-payment, computer security, and host about 20 technical seminars.
MOFTEC minister Shi Guangsheng heads the organizing committee, and
vice-minister Chen Xinhua and MII vice-minister Lu Xinkui will assist.

The organizing committee will also comprise of ministerial- level
officials from China's most important administrations for economy and

information capabilities by making greater use of e-commerce. Last
year, MOFTEC decided to start using computer networks to administrate
China's foreign trade. It advised all import and export enterprises
that they have to apply for trade licenses via the computer network by
    the year 2000.

In a project called "government-online", China plans to get four-fifths
of the government administrations onto the Internet in two years.

It will be the first time that so many top Chinese government
administrations have taken part in an expo focusing on e-commerce.
Several world famous companies have already confirmed that they will be
present at the September exposition. These included the Microsoft Corp.,
IBM, Intel, HP, Sun Microsystems, Compaq, Kodak and NEC. Shenzhen
Huawei and other big domestic information organizations will also take

    TEXT:
  /LP, /TX   GUANGZHOU (Oct. 17) XINHUA - A decade-long plan to attract 100
billion US dollars in overseas investment has been launched by south
    China's Guangdong Province.
/TX       Guangdong wants to encourage more overseas companies to invest
money in comprehensive agricultural development projects and export
-oriented agricultural projects in the years to come.
The province will also work harder to attract more overseas
investors, and increase overseas investment in basic facilities,
basic industries, capital- and technology-intensive projects, as
    well as in hi-tech projects.
According to local officials, in the coming 10 years, the
province plans to make a use of 10 billion US dollars of overseas
    capital each year.
Tang Bingquan, deputy governor of the province, said that the
province will strengthen its macro guidance and management over the
use of overseas funds, while trying hard to create a sound
investment environment to attract more trans-national companies,
consortiums and major trading firms, to start businesses in
    Guangdong.
According to statistics, up to June this year, the province had
made an actual use of 59.1 billion US dollars of overseas
    investment.
The province has established economic cooperation ties with
industrial and commercial communities and financial organizations in
more than 70 countries and regions.
