ITAR/TASS is the official state news agency for Russia. ITAR/TASS, formerly Information Telegraph Agency of Russia, translates and creates news releases for distribution worldwide. ITAR/TASS relies on correspondents to collect its news and has 74 bureaus in Russia and the other CIS countries, and 62 bureaus in 59 foreign countries. News coverage includes inter-state information, world, business, headline, and sports.


ITAR/TASS is contained in two databases: Files 607 and 667. File 607 contains current data beginning in June 1999. File 667 contains archive data spanning from July 1996 through May 1999. OneSearch/DIALINDEX category ITARTASS may be used to begin both files simultaneously; i.e., BEGIN ITARTASS.

  DL=,/LP,/TX   YELABUGA , Tatarstan , June   23  (Itar -Tass )  - The Yelabuga car 
    construction plant (YelAZ) in Russia's Tatarstan autonomous republic on 
    Wednesday received the first 48 sets of component parts for Opel Vektra 
    cars from General Motors plants in Germany, YelAZ General Director 
    Ravil Zaripov said. 
     
    Opel Vektras will be produced according to the same plan that YelAZ 
    used in its production of Chevrolet Blazer jeeps, Zaripov told 
    Itar-Tass. At first, the plant will only assemble the cars using 
    German-made components. In the future, 70 percent of components will be 
    produced in Tatarstan and other Russian regions. More than 160 Russian 
    plants have already agreed to cooperate with YelAZ, Zaripov said. 
     
  /TX  The first lot of cars will be equipped with two-liter engines, complete 
    electrical package and air conditioning, Zaripov said. Plant officials 
    refused to specify the car's price, but in Moscow it amounts to 28,900 
    US dollars. 
     
    According to YelAZ officials, the price of an Opel Vektra will be 
    flexible, otherwise it can follow the path of Chevrolet Blazer. YelAZ 
    had to discontinue production of the Blazer, as about 1,000 of them 
    remain unsold at the plant's warehouses.
