Newspaper Abstracts is the online newspaper indexing and abstracting service of ProQuest Information and Learning. The file provides comprehensive indexing of more than 20 major regional, national, and international newspapers. Brief article abstracts are also included for the majority of the newspapers. Material indexed includes: all international, national, regional, state, and local news; business, financial, and economic articles; editorials; commentaries; letters to the editor from prominent people; obituaries of prominent people; arts, entertainment, and leisure articles; sports (in all but The New York Times); and special series and supplements.


The newspapers included in Newspaper Abstracts are: American Bankers; Atlanta Constitution; selected articles from the Atlanta Journal; Boston Globe; Chicago Tribune; Christian Science Monitor; Denver Post; Detroit News; Guardian and Guardian Weekly (London); Houston Post; Los Angeles Times; New Orleans Times-Picayune; The New York Times; Pravda (English-language edition); St. Louis Post-Dispatch; San Francisco Chronicle; USA Today; The Wall Street Journal (indexed by Dow Jones); Washington Times; and the Black Newspaper Collection.
