The Hospital Outpatient Profiles (HOP) database provides disease-specific outpatient reports for more than 2,400 diseases. Search the database by International Classification of Diseases (ICD) code or keyword and get the statistics you need instantly.
The database updates annually with the latest data available from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NHAMCS). Statistics are generally from two years prior to the current year.
USE FILE 463to find diagnosis and epidemiology information for market research, product development, and strategic planning. SEARCH /TIto search for keywords in the Title, e.g., SELECT DIABETES(2W)COMPLICATION?/TISEARCH /DEto search controlled-vocabulary terms, e.g., SELECT DIABETES(W)MELLITUS/DE |
Each ICD code provides the following detail: discharge data (number of primary discharges and all listed discharges for a given year), patient characteristics (gender/age/race/ethnicity breakouts and geographic distribution), visit characteristics (type of provider seen, average time spent with physician, top three reasons for visit, and chronicity of ailment), payment source (authorization requirements, expected source of payment, visit capitation, and patient's HMO status), concomitant diagnoses (top five concomitant diagnoses with discharge frequencies), medications ordered/prescribed (top ten medications prescribed and overall number of medications prescribed), diagnostic/screening services provided (therapeutic/preventive services, imaging tests, and diagnostic tests provided), visit disposition (where patient went after release).
Data included in the HOP database is derived from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NHAMCS), a national probability survey conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The NCHS is a part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Data includes hospital-based outpatient departments only, and excludes federal, military, and Veterans Administration hospitals as well as free-standing ambulatory care centers without hospital affiliation.
