File Description [top]

DIALOG Product Code FinderTM is a search aid database designed to locate product codes in DIALOG databases. Records are created for entries in Additional Indexes that reference product names and product codes, typically PN=(Product Name field), PC= (Product Code field), or SC= (Standard Industrial Classification Code field). Standard Industrial Classification codes and product codes that appear in File 413 include a corresponding product description. Product names are shown in the form in which they appear in the original database index, including abbreviations and spelling variations. Long product names may be truncated due to a 46-character limit. If a database has multiple Additional Indexes that reference product information, (e.g., both a Product Name (PN=)and a Product Code (PC=), separate records are created in File 413 for each index. Use of File 413 allows quick identification of the files that contain product information and the appropriate codes to use for searching. Product name variations can be browsed by EXPANDing in the PN= index. Key words can be searched in the Basic Index.
