PEDS: Defense Program Summaries database is a collection of "justification" documents that correlate to each defense program element. Literally meaning Program Element Descriptive Summaries, PEDS provide detailed descriptions of specific programs and their costs. There is a separate group of PEDS for each branch of the service.
Contributing service branches (SV=) include:
In addition, PEDS authored by Defense Agencies cover programs that cross several service organizations.
USE FILE 388to find project descriptions and business relationships in currently active defense programs. EXPAND MT= or BN=to get a complete list of PEDS included in the database. USE SV=to search for the service branch issuing the PEDS of interest. USE PE=to search for particular Program Elements within a particular PEDS. /p> |
PEDS are particularly important for their descriptions of the objectives and goals of each currently active or planned program and for the details of the relationship of each program to other programs and projects within the budget. PEDS are indispensable planning tools for the defense contractor, providing insight and perspective essential for effective and successful decision making.
The broad scope of programs covered by the PEDS is indicated by the titles of a sampling of 1997 PEDS shown below:
