File Description [top]

The Derwent Drug File, produced by Thomson Reuters is a complete information package, specifically designed to meet the information requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. It provides references from the worldwide pharmaceutical literature going back to 1964. The database covers all aspects of drug synthesis, development, evaluation, manufacture, and use. The highly focused coverage of the database ensures that all information retrieved from it is strongly drug-oriented. In addition, the unique combination of biological and chemical information enables searchers to find data on all types of structure-activity relationships.

The Derwent Drug File contains two file pairs of publicly accessible and companion subscriber-only files. Files 377/912 contain records from 1983 to the present; Files 376/913 contain records from 1964-1982 and are closed files that are no longer updated. Each record in the database contains extremely detailed, controlled-language indexing, together with bibliographic information. An English-language summary abstract of approximately 100 words is present in all records in Files 377/912. The subscriber-only file (File 912) contains a more detailed Extension Abstract of up to 250 words.

Subject Coverage [top]

Derwent Drug File provides detailed coverage of all aspects of drugs. The data includes the preparation and testing of potential drugs, analysis, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, therapy, adverse effects and toxicology, pharmacokinetics, isolation from natural sources, biochemistry, immunology, etc.

Sources [top]

More than 1,150 worldwide key journals, chosen in consultation with a committee of user representatives to give comprehensive coverage, are regularly and promptly scrutinized for relevant papers.

     ABSTRACT:
  /AB   4-Azido, 4-amino, 4-amido and 4-alkoxy compounds related to the
     lignans podophyllotoxin (podofilox) and 4'-demethyl
epipodophyllotoxin were prepared and evaluated for cytotoxic
activity.  All compounds inhibited the growth of human cervical
cancer cells and TC-mouse cells with 4-amino-4-deoxy
podophyllotoxin and 4-azido-4-deoxy podophyllotoxin showing the
greatest activity. Alkaline elution studies showed that toxicity of
4'-demethoxy derivatives was due to protein-mediated DNA nicking.
None of the compounds showed antiviral activity against HSV-2 in MS
751 cells, HIV in CEM cells of cytomegalovirus (CMV) in human
     embryo
    fibroblasts MRC-5 at non-toxic doses.
