Ei EnCompassPAT^TM (Engineering Information EnCompass Patents) provides comprehensive coverage of patents related to the petroleum, petrochemicals, natural gas, and energy industries. With over 480,000 records dating back to 1964, EnCompassPAT abstracts are chosen and indexed by experts to ensure credibility and reliability. To help users keep up-to-date with developments in their areas of interest, monthly or weekly bulletins of patent abstracts are available in the following subject areas: Catalysts & Zeolites, Chemical Products, Environment Transport & Storage, Fuel Reformulation, Oil Field Chemicals, Petroleum Processes, Petroleum & Speciality Products, Petroleum Substitutes, and Tribology. Coverage is worldwide, from 40 patenting authorities. Before 1982, coverage was limited to patents issued by the United States, Belgium, Canada, France, West Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Japan, South Africa, the European Patent Office, and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

File 353 is the public access file. Non-subscriber access is restricted on Ei EnCompassLIT and Ei EnCompassPAT to a total of two hours of connect time per calendar year on all hosts by all facilities of the non-subscriber and its subsidiaries, worldwide. File 953 is available only to subscribers.
