The Chinese Patents Fulltext database (File 325) is produced by Scipat Benelux BV and contains translated fulltext of all Chinese patent and utility model publications issued since 1985. The English translations of Chinese patents are created by Scipat using state-of-the-art statistical machine translation technology combined with human-assisted intellectual processing.
The database is updated weekly. The English translations are available online approximately two weeks after publication by the Chinese Patent Office (SIPO).
Searchable bibliographic data consists of translated patent applicant/assignee names and inventor names, International Patent Classification (IPC) codes, and standardized patent and application numbers. Priority application numbers are standardized in Dialog format, for easy cross-file searching in other patent databases. The title, abstract, specification and claims have been translated into English for fulltext searching. Most records also contain translated legal status which is updated whenever new legal status events affecting the document have occurred. If a Chinese patent is based on a PCT publication, the WO publication and application numbers are included in the record for records from 2008 forward.
Clipped images are available for many patents from 1985 forward. Records containing images can be located by including RT=IMAGE in the search strategy. Most documents from 1985 forward also contain PDF Links to the original Chinese documents.
USE FILE 325to search English translations of the fulltext of Chinese patents. EXPAND LS=to review legal status events of a Chinese patent. USE MAPto save patent or application numbers for locating related patents in other files. USE IDPATto group together multiple publication levels for the same invention across files. SELECT TOPIC; IDPAT

1 Text fields for the file through 2007 are created by means of optical scanning of printed text. Human-assted machine translation (MAT) has been used to produce equivalent English text. Chinese characters that were scanned inocrrectly or could not be translated are represented in the text by the 3 asterisks (***).
2 All chemical names are indexed as complete individual words and chemically significant word segments. Words such as CHLOROBENZENE can be retrieved by either segment, e.g., S CHLORO or S BENZENE. Any term in the Basic Index can be restricted to a full word using the /FW suffix, e.g., S BENZENE/FW. Locants, such as 2,3, indicate the position of a chemical group within the structure and are searched as words, e.g., S 2(W)3. Truncation of chemical segments is not recommended.

3 Use the qualifier /PR to restrict a search to priority application data. Priority application numbers in source format and priority dates can also be searched in the Priority Application field PR=.
4 Priority application numbers are formatted in standard DIALOG format for ease in MAPping to other patent databases. Annual series numbers contain 4 leading year digits, Use MAP PN or MAP AN to search for the corresponding records in other patent databases.
5 U.S. priority application numbers may be searched in several ways: with four leading year digits, e.g., S AN=US 2000102574, with four trailing year digits, e.g., S AN=US 590668-1996, or with leading series digits, e.g., AN=US 60-85997.
6 Inventor names may appear in direct order with the surname last or in inverted order with the surname first. For the most comprehensive retrieval, use the (N) operator, e.g. S AU=(ARNAUD(1N)BOURGE).
7 Inventor and Assignee countries can be searched using IL=(inventor) or PL= (assignee).
8 Use /MA to restrict International Patent Classification entries prior to 2006 to the main class to which a patent is assigned, e.g. S IC=C25D-005/04/MA.
9 With the introduction of the Reformed International Patent Classification (IPCR/8) on January 1, 2006, the format of the IPC group has increased in length from 3 to 4 digits. For comprehensive retrieval, both forms of the classification should be searched, e.g., S IC=H04R-025/00 OR IC=H04R-0025/00 . IPCR/8 classifications can also be searched in the ICA= (Advanced) and ICC= (Core) indexes.
10 Each IPCR/8 classification code is also assigned a series of attributes which include classification level (A - Advanced, C - Core), value (I - Inventive, N - Non-inventive), position (F - First, L - Later), status (B - basic, R - Reclassified, V - Various, D - Deleted), version date, action date, source (H - Human, M - Machine, G - Generated), and assigning office. The IPC attributes can be searched with the IA= prefix and can be linked to an IPCR/8 classification code using the S operator and quotes around the classification code, e.g., S IA=F(S)IC="A61K-0031/198" .
11 Legal Status events are provided for most records. Information includes the event date (LD=) and the event description( LS=). A complete list of legal status event can be found in the LS= index.
12 The patent information display consists of patent and application data, and priority data. Starting in January 2008, it also includes "based on" information for WO patents and applications to which the Chinese patent is related.
13 From 2008 forward, PCT publications and applications on which Chinese patents are based can be searched using the corresponding number and date fields.
14 Record Type can be used to identify records that contain clipped images, abstracts, legal status, specifications or claims, e.g., RT=IMAGE. The limit /FULLTEXT can be used to restrict a search to records that include a specification and claims.
15 Word Count applies only to the text fields, i.e., specification and claims. WD= may be used to search the word count in either German or English text as well as the combined text.
16 The Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) was introduced in January 2013. It is structurally similar to the International Patent Classification (IPC), so CPC classes are searched the same way using the CP= prefix. CPC attributes are the same as the IPC attributes with the exception of the Value attribute (I - Inventive, A - Additional), and are searched with the CA= prefix. The (S) operator can be used to link the CPC class codes and their attributes.
