/AB  ABSTRACT: Aniline production is concentrated in the US, Western Europe and
Japan.  Its global production capacity in 1995 was 2.2 M tonnes, while
consumption was only 2 M tonnes.  It has been estimated that the world
demand in 2000 will reach 2.68 M tonnes.   In recent years, there has been
more demand than supply in the market; this is particularly due to the
increase in need of diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate (MDI).  Main
contributions in aniline production are from ICI, Britain, (200,000 tonnes
capacity), Bayer, Germany, (242,000), First (110,000) and DuPont (118,000)
of the US.  Other countries with production facilities are in Belgium,
Russia, China, Korea, India and Brazil.  New plants are being constructed
or planned for, especially through JV e.g.   Bayer and First.  In Japan
alone, the output of aniline in 1995 was 241,500 tonnes.  Besides MDI,
aniline consumption is in the rubber, agrochemical, dyes and pigments,
pharmaceutical and synthetic fibres industries (only 150,000 tonnes in
1995).  Tables provide information on major aniline producers in the world
and their capacity; aniline output in the US, Western Europe and Japan
(1980-1995); and its consumption in these regions according to application
e.g.  MDI, rubber auxiliary and agrochemicals.
