Federal Research In Progress (FEDRIP) database provides access to information about ongoing federally funded research projects in the fields of physical sciences, engineering, and life sciences. Research information is provided to NTIS by the sponsoring U.S. government agencies. All records in the database include title, principal investigator, performing organization, and sponsoring organization. Most records also include a description of the research, although the exact record content varies according to the sponsoring agency. File 266 is available worldwide, as of May 1998.
USE FILE 266for research summaries of ongoing federally funded research projects in the fields of physical sciences, engineering, and life sciences. USE FILE SEGMENT, FS=to find the contributing government agency. For a list of agencies, use HELP CODES266 or EXPAND FS=. USE RANKto find top Sponsoring Organizations in a field of study. | /AB | SUMMARY: 9421491 Brooks This is an award to support research, the |
| objective of which is to obtain an understanding of the fundamental | |
| physical and chemical processes that control the interchange of substances | |
| in alluvial sediments of flowing water streams with the water as affected | |
| by the sediment bed forms such as ripples and dunes. The basic approach | |
| being taken in this research is the conduct of experiments in recirculating | |
| laboratory flumes under very carefully controlled conditions of flow, water | |
| quality, the bed media and the nature of the substances dissolved or in | |
| particulate form being exchanged at the bed-fluid interface. This is a | |
| renewal of research previously conducted under NSF Grant No. 91-05965. | |
| Results of this research may be applied to answering important questions | |
| relating to the pollutional effects that substances in bottom sediments | |
| of water bodies have on the overlying water quality. This knowledge is | |
| likely to be applied in environmental engineering practice to determine | |
| approaches to removal of potential water pollutants and contaminants from | |
| sediments and in determining locations for wastewater treatment plants that | |
| would minimize the undesirable effects on environmental quality of their | |
| effluent discharges and management practices for residual sludges. | |

4 Principal Investigator and Associate Investigators for a Performing Organization are searchable as both IN= and as Author, AU=.
5 Completion Date present in all subfiles except CRISP, FHWA, NASA, NSB, SBIR, and VA. May omit the two digit day in the date.
6 Performing Organization searchable as PO=, and CS=, Corporate Source, and as Company, /CO and CO=.
7 Consists of Performing Organization's City.
8 Funding present in the CRISP, EPA, FHWA, INTBM, NSF, and SBIR subfiles. FD= contains the value as displayed, while FU= is rounded down to the first digit.
9 Numeric values for Funding can be entered in several different ways: directly as a number, e.g., S FD=391809; in exponential notation, e.g., S FD=3.0E5:4.0E5. Letter abbreviations are also available: K for thousand, M or million, B for billion, e.g., S FD=391K:392K. To search a range of values, use a colon between starting and ending values, e.g., S FD=391000:392000, OR use relational operators (>, <, >=, and <=), e.g., S 390K<=FD<=400K.
10 For a current list of FEDRIP file segments see HELP CODES266.
