File Description [top]

Peterson's College Database is a comprehensive file of degree-granting, post-secondary colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada. The file includes a few non-U.S. colleges that have degree programs accredited by recognized U.S. accrediting bodies. It contains the text of the college profiles found in Peterson's annually updated Guide to Four-Year Colleges and Guide to Two-Year Colleges. The profiles include the following topics: general information (e.g., enrollment, setting, program accreditation, degrees granted); student mix (e.g., geographic, ethnic); freshman academic data (e.g., SAT scores, class rank, acceptances); enrollment patterns; admissions (e.g., entrance difficulty, requirements, deadlines); graduation requirements; expenses and financial aid; special programs (e.g., remedial work, cooperative education); housing; campus life; student and career services; sports; majors; and application contact.

All institutions meeting the appropriate criteria are included in the database. Records not fully updated for the current edition include partial profiles and characteristic codes (CC= field). To restrict retrieval only to complete records, use the /FULL limit.
