The Quotations Database is an omnibus file of literary, political, and other quotations of note. The file consists of material from The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations (ODQ) published by the Oxford University Press. ODQ was originally compiled in the 1930's; the third edition was published in 1979. The database presents relatively brief quotations accompanied by the author's name, birth and death dates, and the source of the quote. Material is drawn from: poets, novelists, playwrights, politicians, public figures, The Bible, Vulgate, the Book of Common Prayer, the Latin Mass, ballads, Greek and Latin classics, modern European language classics, and famous historical mots, dicta, quips, and utterances.

Initially, the Quotations Database contains The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. Other quotations sources will be added to the file in the future.
