File Description [top]

Global Health is the only specialist bibliographic database for academics and researchers in public and international health. With more than 1,000,000 records from more than 3,500 serials as well as books, conference proceedings, and "grey" literature, Global Health offers you a fuller picture of public and international health. The database is provided by CAB International and is built upon its predecessor CAB Health. More than 10,000 serials and other sources are scanned to create 70,000 new records each year.

75% of the original texts are in English; the rest cover another 55 languages from around the globe. Scientific material is taken from 125 countries giving Global Health a truly global perspective on public health research. 95% of the records contain English language abstracts.

/AB     On  average,  each  sting  of  an Africanized honey
bee inoculates 10-50 micro g of venom. The number of
stings necessary to cause the death of the victim  is
usually  about  300-500,  but  in hypersensitive
individuals a single  sting  can  be  fatal. In Mexico
about 198 deaths have so far been attributed to
Africanized bee stings. In the state of San Luis Potosi,
880 incidents of bee stings and 13 deaths were recorded
between 1989 and 1994, and  these  are believed to
represent about one-third of the actual numberof cases.
Clinical manifestations are variable and include pain,
     pruritus, oedema,  lymphadenopathy  and, particularly
in adults, anaphylactic shock. The  latter  can  produce
     vasculitis,  kidney  failure  and encephalitis.
Treatment   depends   on   the   symptoms   and  includes
     antihistamines, vasopressors, oxygen therapy and
     bronchodilators.  8 ref.
