File Description [top]

EMBASE®, a bibliographic database in the area of biomedicine, is the most current biomedical database available today. Articles appear in the database, on average, within two weeks of receipt of the original journal. Each record contains the full bibliographic citation, indexing terms, and other information about the original article; 80% of all citations in EMBASE include author-written abstracts.

About 580,000 abstracts and citations are added annually and each record is classified and indexed by medical research specialists who assign terms in accordance with EMTREE. EMTREE is Elsevier's Life Science thesaurus consisting of more than 50,000 terms and nearly 210,000 synonyms.

EMBASE
File 73 contains records from 1974 to the present; File 72 contains records from 1993 to the present. Files 772 and 972 (available via subscription only) contain records from 1947-1973 and 1947 to the present, respectively. ONTAP® EMBASE, File 272, is available for ONline Training And Practice.

/AB    Osteoarthritis is the most common degenerative joint disease and is
particularly common in the elderly. Topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs) may represent a rational treatment in this situation because
of their favorable side-effect profile. The majority of topical NSAIDs
decrease pain and relieve functional disability caused by osteoarthritis
over the short term, however, there are insufficient data for their
    long-term efficacy. (c) 2007 Future Medicine Ltd.
