/TX  CONNELL  MCSHANE,  FBN  ANCHOR:  Coming  up this morning on "MONEY FOR
BREAKFAST,"  President  Obama  is  set to announce a big boost to embryonic
stem-cell  research  later  today.  What the announcement will mean for the
controversial  research and its ability to get funding. We'll take a closer
look at that. The Senate meantime continuing its debate over a $410 billion
spending  plan  that  has some lawmakers up in arms over programs, like pig
smell  research. Remember that story that we had last week? Researching pig
smell,  amazing  stuff.  Will  the  President  stand  by his promise to rid
    Washington of wasteful spending?
And is President Obama leading us down the path to socialism? Some say
a  $787  billion stimulus plan and his desire to expand healthcare coverage
is  proof  that  he is. We'll see if capitalism is on its way out. That's a
scary  thought.  We  have  that  and  a mega merger in the drug industry on
Monday,  March  9th  of  2009. "MONEY FOR BREAKFAST" starts right now. Hey,
good  morning  everybody. And welcome to "MONEY FOR BREAKFAST." I'm Connell
McShane,  in  for  Alexis Glick today. I will be joined by Charles Payne in
just  a moment and of course Ashley Webster over in London as we have a lot
to  cover  here. We'll have the latest as I said on that mega-merger in the
drug  sector  that's Merck buying Schering-Plough for more than $41 billion
in  cash  and  stock.  It's a story that broke about an hour ago. And since
that,  the  futures came off their lows. But I'm telling you we're still do
to  the  down side of the markets pretty much across the board. You see the
DOW  futures down by 108 points this morning on a day in which the European
averages  are  also trading lower and the Nikkei 225 in Japan hit a low not
seen  since  October of 1982. It is amazing to see these superlatives being
put  into  the  market. There's the Nikkei down 1.2 percent. Kospi in South

                     (. . . )

WHITE:  The  major  thing  is  we  need to have a safety and soundness
regulatory  regime  for  those  large systematic financial institutions. If
we're  going  to  be  putting  taxpayer  money  at  risk, we have to have a
regulatory  regime.  PAYNE: Much stronger regulation. WHITE: Much stronger.
PAYNE: Thank you very much.  Really appreciate your time this morning.
